Funding of Endowed Chairs
Endowed chairs are the top academic priority at Notre Dame for two simple reasons. First, a chair serves as an outstanding magnet to bring to Notre Dame the very best faculty — and to keep at Notre Dame our own home-grown teachers of distinction. Second, an endowed chair allows the University to increase its academic quality without raising undergraduate tuition. The academic strategic vision calls for an ambitious plan to create and fully fund endowed chairs for the University's academic programs.
The academic transformations that have taken place at Notre Dame over the past decade will continue to receive the highest priority to ensure that students who come to Notre Dame are exposed to the very best in undergraduate and graduate experiences. The task is huge: to achieve distinction as a Catholic university, to renew the commitment to teaching and research, to invest more deeply in centers of excellence and to mold new leadership for the future. Notre Dame is a vibrant place today, well poised to take on the new challenges of a new century.
