The capacity of Notre Dame faculty to innovate, to find novel approaches to enduring challenges, is perhaps most visible in the context of major research programs like those supported by the University’s Strategic Research Investments.
But as critical as these projects are, they do not represent the full scope of scholarly innovation on our campus. Subtler efforts that sometimes go unnoticed by the University at large nevertheless have a profound and lasting impact on both the students and colleagues of the faculty engaged in them.
Recognizing that already-busy individuals have a limited amount of time they can afford to devote to such activities, the provost is dedicated to providing administrative support for them, the goal being to encourage the kind of creative thinking that can enhance teaching and scholarship at Notre Dame even further.
