Director of Academic Affairs
Demetra Schoenig serves as director of academic affairs in the Office of the Provost, bringing a deep knowledge of higher education as well as expertise in program development and strategy. Among other responsibilities, she facilitates the efforts of the Academic Council, creates new opportunities for engagement between the Provost’s Office and the Provost’s Advisory Committee, and handles the University's accreditation-related initiatives.
Prior to her current role, Schoenig supervised multiple teams and established performance metrics as director of academic enhancements in Notre Dame’s Graduate School. These teams included the Office of Grants and Fellowships, which serves graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, which manages appointments and stewards policies for non-faculty researchers. She also envisioned and oversaw the execution of professional development offerings for graduate students and postdocs at Notre Dame and designed programs aimed at fostering intellectual community and clear communication. Schoenig was associate director of the Office of the President from 2008 to 2015, overseeing the work of the Office of the Board Secretariat, serving as senior staff to the President’s Leadership Council, coordinating critical aspects of University-wide events including Commencement, and acting as liaison to the Office of Mission Engagement and Church Affairs.
Before joining Notre Dame, Schoenig was responsible for strategic marketing, positioning, and operational planning for Balmer Architectural Mouldings in New York, Cowtan & Tout in Los Angeles, and Brunschwig & Fils in Chicago. With a bachelor of arts in classics and a master of business administration, both from Notre Dame, and trained in organizational behavior, strategy and art history, Schoenig is deeply passionate about the opportunities and responsibilities afforded by access to higher education.
