Ted Barron
Ted Barron, senior associate director of the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center (DPAC) at the University of Notre Dame, has been appointed executive director of the center and Judd and Mary Lou Leighton Director of the Performing Arts. He has served as interim executive director since the departure of Anna Thompson last fall.
“I am delighted that Ted has accepted the position as executive director of our performing arts center,” said Maura Ryan, vice president and associate provost. “He is a passionate advocate for the arts, a talented administrator and a natural collaborator. I look forward to working with him and the other arts partners on campus and in the community in realizing the potential of this extraordinary resource.”
Barron added: “It has been a great privilege to serve as interim executive director for the past academic year, and I am humbled at the opportunity to now assume this permanent role. I have been fortunate to work with an outstanding team at DPAC for the past six years and look forward to deepening our connections with our campus partners in our shared efforts to celebrate and elevate the arts at Notre Dame. This is an exciting moment in the center’s history to reintroduce the value of the arts both on campus and in the greater community.”
Barron has served as senior associate director since 2010 and has led the visits to Notre Dame by filmmakers such as Claire Denis, Larry Karaszewski, Margarethe von Trotta, Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez. He teaches courses on film history in Notre Dame’s Department of Film, Television and Theatre.
Barron previously served as senior programmer of the Harvard Film Archive at Harvard University and director of programming of the Coolidge Corner Theatre Foundation in Brookline, Massachusetts. He has received numerous honors for his film programming, including a special commendation from the Boston Society of Film Critics in 2006. He also has served as a lecturer in film studies at Harvard University, Montclair State University, Boston University, Tufts University and the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
Barron earned his doctorate in visual studies from the University of California, Irvine, where he focused on American independent film and documentary film. He earned a master’s degree in film studies from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Syracuse University.
