With a Side of Knowledge is a podcast produced by the Office of the Provost at the University of Notre Dame. It brings listeners informal interviews with fascinating scholars and professionals from both Notre Dame and elsewhere that take place over brunch.

The 11th episode of season two, “On Publishing and the Love of Books,” was released Thursday, March 21, and features literary agent Jessica Sinsheimer, an associate at the Sarah Jane Freymann Literary Agency. The episode was recorded in Brooklyn, New York, while With a Side of Knowledge host Ted Fox was attending On Air Fest 2019. He and Sinsheimer talked as she was heading out to another jam-packed day in the capital of the publishing world.

In the course of their conversation, they covered what a literary agent does generally as well as the professional experiences that led her to create the Manuscript Wishlist website and the Manuscript Academy, two popular tools that connect writers, agents, and editors with the goal of increasing both transparency and access in the publishing industry. There was also a book recommendation and a story about a fortuitous freshman-year roommate assignment.
