Curriculum and Academic Integrity

Office of Academic Standards

The Office of Academic Standards oversees and organizes the procedures surrounding the Undergraduate Academic Code of Honor. Its primary responsibilities are to: manage intake, investigation, and adjudication of alleged Honor Code violations reported by faculty, students, and staff, chair the University Committee on the Honor Code and update Honor Code policies as needed in concert with Academic Council, provide support for faculty who are navigating violations in their courses, and counsel and advise students who are in violation of the Honor Code to prevent further violations.

Core Curriculum

Central to undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame is the Core Curriculum, a set of requirements that apply to all students, regardless of major. The core's “ways of knowing” approach exposes students to diverse modes of thought for approaching, analyzing, and understanding different aspects of our lives and our world. Each course forms a complementary part of the larger whole, bringing individual students closer to attaining the intellectual capacities and practices that fulfill the overall goals of a Notre Dame education.

Moreau First Year Experience Course

The Moreau First Year Experience Course (FYE) fosters personal development by asking central human questions and discussing important contemporary topics that lead to having meaningful conversations that matter. Anchored by two one-credit seminars and complemented by various co-curricular activities, that provide students the opportunity to reflect communally on a life well lived, in a manner that informs and coheres the various aspects of their lives at and beyond Notre Dame.

Advising, Academic Support, and Scholarly Engagement

Center for University Advising

The Center for University Advising, home of First Year Advising, Academic Support, and the Learning Resource Center, offers mentorship, support, and guidance as students write the next chapter of their scholarship.

Flatley Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement

The Flatley Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement, or CUSE, guides Notre Dame undergraduates in the process of scholarly discernment and advises them on how best to identify or create opportunities for scholarly engagement, especially research; secure University and external funding to support such opportunities; and prepare competitive applications for national fellowships, all with the aim of transforming themselves and their communities in the pursuit of human flourishing and the common good.

Academic Services for Student-Athletes

The Office of Academic Services for Student-Athletes (ASSA) offers personal and academic support to student-athletes participating in the University's highly competitive and visible education and athletic programs. As an academic unit dedicated to the ideals of excellence and independent thinking, the office provides an array of services - counseling, guidance, mentoring, and tutoring - to teach "those disciplined habits of mind, body, and spirit that characterize educated, skilled, and free human beings.”

Scholars’ Programs

AnBryce Scholars Initiative

The University of Notre Dame's AnBryce Scholars Initiative is a highly selective, comprehensive, four-year academic program with holistic support for first-generation scholar-leaders. It assists students in navigating their university experience and scaffolding the development of community-minded global citizens through intensive, year-round, daily interaction and support.

Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars Program

The Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars Program cultivates intellectual engagement, leadership, and commitment to service among its scholars through its pre-matriculation program and co-curricular activities, particularly in their first year. It strives to build and nurture a welcoming and supportive community through academic, social, and service activities among and within cohorts, as well as with alumni of the program.

Notre Dame Scholars’ Program

The mission of the Notre Dame Scholars’ Program is to recruit, yield, and develop Notre Dame’s most mission-aligned and impact-driven prospective students. Specifically, the NDSP aims to develop these students into contemplative and transformational student leaders who are forces for good in service to a world deeply in need.

Transformational Leaders Program

The mission of the Transformational Leaders Program is to scaffold, support, and elevate all first-generation, historically low-resourced or less academically-prepared Notre Dame students to meet their academic and intellectual goals through robust supplemental support while maintaining healthy, grounded, and connected lives. It also works with other campus units to effectively and efficiently coordinate campus-wide scholar programs and existing university resources aimed at first-generation and historically low-resourced students. We aim to be a catalyst for student success and promote the value of holistic academic accompaniment in higher education.
