Faculty and academic staff are invited to join Provost John McGreevy for a conversation on the current state of collegiate athletics and what it means for our student-athletes and our University. Special guests Pete Bevacqua, vice president and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics, and Tricia Bellia, the William J. and Dorothy K. O’Neill Professor of Law and chair of the University’s Faculty Board on Athletics, will share insights on the rapidly shifting world of Division I college athletics and Notre Dame’s distinctive approach to these issues.
The session will be held on Wednesday, February 19, from noon to 1 p.m. in Washington Hall.
Meet the speakers
Pete Bevacqua became vice president and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics for Notre Dame on March 25, 2024. In his short time leading the Athletics Department, Bevacqua has already squarely positioned himself as a leading voice nationally in regards to collegiate athletics, media rights, the importance of student-athlete experience, and name, image and likeness.
Prior to his time at Notre Dame, Bevacqua held leadership roles with NBC Sports, PGA of America, CAA, USGA.
An English major and 1993 graduate of Notre Dame, he went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in 1997, where he graduated cum laude. He began his career as an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York City.
Tricia Bellia is the William J. and Dorothy K. O'Neill Professor of Law at Notre Dame, where she teaches and researches in the areas of constitutional law, administrative law, cyberlaw, and electronic surveillance law. She is co-author of a leading cyberlaw casebook and has published several articles on internet law and separation of powers.
A graduate of Harvard University and Yale Law School, Bellia clerked for justices in United States Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court and worked in the Department of Justice before joining the Notre Dame faculty in 2000.
Since 2009, she has chaired of the University’s Faculty Board on Athletics, which advises the president on educational issues related to intercollegiate athletics. Bellia also serves as Notre Dame’s faculty athletics representative to the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
