Kate Garry is the executive director of academic communications. Working with the provost, associate provosts, and other academic and communications leaders, she directs strategic communications and marketing efforts for the academy, with special emphasis on promoting Notre Dame’s research strengths, global reach, and new initiatives.

She was appointed executive director of academic communications in May 2023. Previously, she was director of communications and marketing for Notre Dame's College of Arts and Letters, developing and executing its first strategic communications plan, managing an award-winning multimedia storytelling team, and serving as a trusted advisor to the dean and other faculty leaders. Earlier roles in Arts and Letters include assistant director of communications and senior writer/editor.

Garry is a member of the University's diversity and inclusion practitioners group and a past president of Thrive! Inspiring ND Women, an employee resource group focused on increasing opportunities for women to be recruited, retained, and advanced as leaders at Notre Dame. She participated in the third cohort of the University’s John Affleck-Graves High-Performance Leadership Program, graduating in fall 2023.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Richmond and a master’s degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois Springfield. Before coming to Notre Dame in 2010, Garry worked as a communications director for the American Heart Association. Prior to that, she was a journalist who won four national awards for her coverage of the Illinois Statehouse.
