Mark Sanders

Professor of English and Africana Studies
Director of the Notre Dame Initiative on Race and Resilience

“I came to Notre Dame to advance my scholarship and to create an infrastructure to support other scholars in the emerging field of Afro-Latin American Studies. Since arriving, I’ve been given the opportunity to expand the scope of my work to address directly systemic racism – one of the fundamental problems animating so much of African-American and Afro-Latin American writing.

“I’ve been fortunate to work closely with colleagues in the Notre Dame Initiative on Race and Resilience, the Department of Africana Studies, and other units across campus to help Notre Dame better support students, faculty, and staff of color, and to help marshal Notre Dame’s substantial resources to support organizations in the greater Michiana area confronting systemic racism.”
